Breaking Out Of My Comfort Zone: My First Spoken Word

Jan 04, 2024

A few weeks ago, I did my first spoken word at an open mic night with The Orange Room Collective.

And I left with my heart feeling so full. First full of pride for little Kiren, she chose to do something to break out of her comfort zone - performing in public whilst sharing a piece of her soul through creativity. Secondly gratitude for all of the love that was shared and received.

Love is our birthright, and no matter what circumstances you’re going through - when you surround yourself in spaces, people and environments that nourish a part of you that was once forgotten can be the most powerful experience of all. I decided to go rogue at the end of my spoken word and do a gentle meditation at the end with the crowd which was so special.

I share this to say, if there’s a part of you that wishes to do something that you once did as a child or something new - don’t overthink it, just go for it. Go for it with the intention that you’re doing it because - why not?! What have you really got to lose? You’re not doing it for anyone else but you. Now that we are in a new year, I invite you to bring in new experiences that add joy into your life (even if they feel daunting at first!).

I signed up for this open mic night because I saw all of the inspiring souls who performed at the last one. Those who dared to be bold and share their unique gifts with others in the room, overcoming perfection and instead just being fully embodied in the true essence of who they are. And I thought “if they can do it, why can’t I? It’ll be a fun experiment and experience!”

When we mute the voice of fear within, we can accomplish greatness. Greatness is subjective, and once we realise that we have the capacity to embody this whether large or small we can truly transform ourselves and what we once thought was possible.

And believe me when I say whether you’re watching or performing - it ignites something within you! So whatever you decide to do, I hope this week’s post inspires you to just go for it! You might just surprise yourself!

With love,

Kiren x
